Product information "TG GPU Guard - NVIDIA GPU Set"

The TG GPU Guard is a highly compressible foam gasket for the GPU dies of graphics cards. It protects electronic components when using liquid metal or other electrically conductive thermal interface materials, while also extending the durability of liquid metal. The TG GPU Guard covers the surface-mounted devices (SMDs) next to the GPU and is slightly taller than the GPU die itself. The highly compressible base material has a height of 0.8 mm and can be compressed down to 0.15 mm, easily compensating for height differences of the SMDs.

how it works

When mounting the cooler, the applied pressure fully compresses the foam to bridge the height difference between the PCB and the cooler, ensuring that liquid metal (or other thermal compounds) cannot spread onto other components on the PCB. In addition, the foam gasket prevents oxygen from reaching the liquid metal, which further increases its lifespan.

The TG GPU Guard is gallium-resistant.

Notes

Apply the TG GPU Guard according to the instructions before applying liquid metal to the GPU and cooler.

Not reusable.

Not for use with CPUs!

Properties

The NVIDIA variant includes three gaskets each for the GPU dies of the GeForce RTX 5090, GeForce RTX 5080, and GeForce RTX 4090. For easier application, the gaskets are supplied on a transfer film. The TG GPU Guard can also be used for GPU dies with similar dimensions (see image gallery for reference). However, there should always be 1–2 mm of clearance between the GPU and the TG GPU Guard.

TG GPU Guard

Which version of TG GPU Guard do I need, and how do the variants differ?

The NVIDIA GPU Set contains nine gaskets, three each for the RTX 4090, RTX 5080 and RTX 5090. The Custom version is a 100 × 100 × 0.8 mm sheet that can be cut to size. The dimensions of the GPU die and the surrounding components are what matter. Leave 1–2 mm of clearance between the die and the gasket on all sides. TG GPU Guard is designed for GPUs and is not suitable for CPUs.

How do I apply TG GPU Guard, and which components need to be protected?

Clean and dry the bonding surface, then fit TG GPU Guard according to the instructions before applying liquid metal. When cutting the Custom version to size, cut the inner opening first and then the outer contour using a sharp knife on a suitable surface. Leave 1–2 mm of clearance around the GPU die. The gasket must not get between the die and the cooler. It compresses significantly when the cooler is installed and helps limit the escape of thermal interface material. Nevertheless, apply liquid metal sparingly and check the assembly before switching on. A gasket that has already been used must be replaced.

What should I consider when removing GPU Guard?

GPU Guard has an adhesive layer on its underside. Warm the GPU to approximately 40–50 °C using a hair dryer, not a heat gun. Then carefully peel off GPU Guard. The warmth helps release the adhesive and prevents damage, for example to SMD components.
